Overview is seeking a Principal Solution Architect to lead the shaping of requirements for the largest and most challenging end-to-end technical solutions, guide and significantly contribute to solving the hard problems of those solutions, support customer and capture engagements to demonstrate our differentiation, and mentor technologists across the company. The successful candidate will have multiple successes implementing a wide range of systems and technologies to create event-driven, Application Programming Interface (API) centric, distributed data/processing, elastically scaling, highly-visual interactive analytics applications.  

The Principal Solution Architect will have broad exposure to multiple programs and projects across coupled with the ability to directly influence design and implementation. They will discern and champion the best practices for solutions, systems, and applications, ensuring that “the BigBear way” is consistent, pushes the envelope of what is possible, and differentiated. You will educate our clients and staff to help them understand what we can achieve, then take a leading hands-on role solving the hardest problems and shepherding the process of getting projects started following your designs. What you will do

  • Perform the most senior design and development tasks for systems engineering / solutions architecture on projects
  • Support solution development and writing of technical proposals
  • Successfully select and integrate infrastructure, products, platforms, and custom components to meet end-to-end solution requirements.
  • Ensure system architecture documentation is robust
  • Act as a visionary trusted customer liaison and “product manager” in our most complicated accounts
  • Provide ongoing advice to projects around technical solutions, best practices, and efficiencies
  • Maintain awareness and expertise of the latest data processing and management, cloud and infrastructure, orchestration, integration, and visualization technologies in order to proactively support the adoption of truly beneficial new capabilities
  • Mentor staff as assigned
  • Work with product development teams to ensure customer functional requirements are fully considered, best practices and differentiated learnings are shared, and a single identity is supported.

What you need to have

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience with design, development, and deployment of multiple complex or large-scale operational analytics capabilities, where individual coding contributions were foundational and broadly applicable to success
  • 10+ years of software development experience using Java, Python, C, and JavaScript
  • 5+ years working with AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure
  • Experience with build and deployment automation (Continuous Integration/Delivery) experience using industry-standard platforms (like Jenkins, Git, Terraform, and Ansible)
  • Previous success with operational deployment using containers, serverless, and PaaS technologies (Lambda, Kubernetes, Docker, Fargate, Elastic Beanstalk)
  • 5+ years developing and managing APIs which abstracted underlying vendor systems behind a functionally appropriately model and experience following microservice best practices
  • Experience setting up and integrating identity and authorization directory services (like SailPoint) and a variety of software platforms with single-sign-on (SSO) solutions (like Okta)
  • Multiple experiences designing data models for relational (dimensional), document, graph, and caching stores (like PostreSQL, DynamoDB, Redshift, Aurora, Neo4j, Neptune, and ElasticSearch) and their successful implementation
  • Operational use of machine learning technologies (like H2O, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, and KNIME) and data science methods, including model explanation techniques
  • Operational deployment and performance tuning of big data platforms (Hadoop, Spark, Hive, Kafka)
  • Experience designing and debugging data analytics visualizations with interactive charts, maps, and dashboards
  • Able to match customer requirements to appropriate technologies and approaches, describe the pros and cons of each option, and provide optimal recommendations
  • Able to communicate complex technical concepts to external business and technical audiences, and write at a level appropriate for a senior executive
  • Experience working for a federal defense contractor
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance
